Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), an infection caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-Co-V2), was declared a global pandemic in early 2020. Differentiating viral and bacterial infection can be challenging, leading to inappropriate or prolonged antibiotic use in patients with COVID-19, increasing the risk of antimicrobial resistance. Authors in this study, evaluated the prevalence, aetiologies and antibiotic resistance patterns of bacterial infections in hospitalized patients with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2. They noted high rates of hospital-acquired bacteria infection in COVID-19 patients, including with Multi Drug Resistant pathogens.
