The use of antibiotics in animal farming, a major contributor to antimicrobial resistance is expected to rise between 2020 and 2030 despite ongoing efforts to curtail their use. Although antibiotics are used to treat infections in livestock, they are often used to speed up animal growth to meet the increased demand for meat production. A survey analysis was conducted to estimate antibiotic usage in 229 countries where around 40% of countries do not report their antibiotic use to World Organization for Animal Health at all. There has to be a global will to reduce and regulate the use of antimicrobials, if not, we contribute to the pandemic of antimicrobial resistance.
