Infectious diseases commonly occur during pregnancy, due to changes in the maternal internal environment and weakened immune functions. These Infections induces the production of numerous inflammatory cytokines. Appropriate selection of the antimicrobial regime for treatment of infection during pregnancy is a key imperative to reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes. Use of antimicrobial agents during pregnancy can affect the gut flora of the newborn, which has a critical impact on the development of innate immunity. Perinatal use of antimicrobial agents can adversely affect immune tolerance and increase the risk of allergic and autoimmune diseases in early childhood. Authors in this study, explore the association between antimicrobial exposure and pregnancy outcomes.
