->Scientists have used Artificial Intelligence to discover a new antibiotics that can kill a deadly species of superbugs.
->Acinetobacter baumannii is a nosocomial Gram-negative pathogen that often displays multidrug resistance. Discovering new antibiotics againstAcinetobacter baumannii has proven challenging through conventional screening approaches.
->Machine learning methods allow for the rapid exploration of chemical space, increasing the probability of discovering new antibacterial molecules. Researchers here, screened ~7,500 molecules for those that inhibited the growth of Acinetobacter baumannii in vitro. They trained a neural Artificial intelligence network with this growth inhibition dataset and performed in silico predictions for structurally new molecules with activity against Acinetobacter baumannii
->They found nine potential antibiotics. One of them which was the incredibly potent antibioticabaucin. It had no effect on other species of bacteria, and worked only on Acinetobacter baumannii
->Artificial intelligence could help screen tens of millions of potential compounds in an enhanced rate, and may also decrease the cost, with which researchers can discover these new classes of antibiotic that we need to fight against Antimicrobial resistance.
