Methicillin resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a multi-drug resistant pathogen, that colonized human body and cause serious infections; with the spread of antibiotic resistance there are limited treatment options. In a recent Phase 2 clinical trial, the probiotic , Bascillus subtillis markedly reduced S.aureus colonization. It does not ‘kill’ the pathogen but it specifically and strongly diminishes its capacity to colonize and leaves the composition of the microbiota intact. This is a promising approach to complement or replace antibiotics as the only way to treat MRSA infections.
