Novel Anti-infective drug discovery:
In collaboration with Organizations pursuing anti-infective new drug discovery, invent proprietary new/novel antimicrobials, combinations, or repurpose to address the major challenge of AMR Antibiotics have transformed modern medicine. They are among our most transformative medicines which irrevocably increased our lifespan aka longevity by one to two decades in less than a century. They are essential for treating infectious diseases and enable vital therapies and procedures. However, despite this success, their continued use in the 21st century is imperilled by two orthogonal challenges. The first is that the microbes targeted by these drugs evolve resistance to them over time. The second is that antibiotic discovery and development are no longer cost-effective using traditional reimbursement models. Consequently, there are a dwindling number of companies and laboratories dedicated to delivering new antibiotics, resulting in an anaemic pipeline that threatens our control of infections. The future of antibiotics requires innovation in a field that has relied on highly traditional methods of discovery and development (Science 2022).
Dr. Maneesh Paul (Founder and CEO of Microvioma) is the project lead and Co-inventor of Enmetazobactam. Enmetazobactam, the first anti-infective agent of Indian origin, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing phase-3 clinical trials and has advanced into the NDA phase in both the US and Europe. Under Dr. Maneesh Paul’s leadership, the drug is now undergoing India-specific phase-3 trials, marking a pivotal step in its development and potential future approval.
Gut-Microbiome revival:
The role of the microbiota has been studied quite extensively in processes associated with healing. We have to change our belief from “you are what you eat” to “we are what we digest”. Our gut microbiome works as a ‘metabolic organ,’ promoting digestion, energy metabolism, immunity, bone metabolism, even sleep patterns and proper brain function. Hence at Microvioma we are conducting our research to formulate a kit that has Probiotics, herbs that aid in good gut health, and in addition promote the probiotic bacteria to produce the desired secondary metabolites.
This product will be novel, based on extensive research& development to identify and formulate a composition that gives great and healthy living.
